Box Score TOWSON (MD) – Goucher College ended the game with a 12-0 run as the Gophers secured their first win of the season with a 75-65 triumph over visiting Delaware Valley University.
Goucher (1-4) held a 63-60 advantage with a little more than four minutes remaining. The Aggies (0-5) cut into that on a pair of
Ashley Smink free throws.
Danielle Skedzielewski then hit a layup while being fouled with 2:32 left on the clock. The sophomore sank her foul shot to complete the three-point play and give DelVal a 65-63 lead.
However, the rest of the contest belonged to the Gophers, starting with a layup by Katie Pacak to tie it up with 1:55 remaining. Twenty-four seconds later, Briana Bull drilled a jumper for the go-ahead hoop and Packak followed with four straight from the foul line. Goucher added four more points in the final 13 seconds for the win.
The Gophers led by four after the first quarter and upped their advantage to eight, 39-31, at halftime. DelVal cuts its deficit in half, 54-50, by the end of the third and went up two on a pair of occasions in the fourth. The last was on Skedzielewski's three-point play before Goucher went on the late run for the win.
Skedzielewski finished with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists before fouling out.
Sam Foy added 16 points and a team-high eight boards while Smink scored 10 points and dished out six assists.
Sarah Wills had six points, six rebounds and four assists on the evening.
The Gophers, who shot 50 percent from the field, was paced by Bull's 19 points. Packak had 16 points and eight rebounds.
DelVal will host Cabrini College for a non-conference tilt on Saturday, December 3 (1 p.m.).
