ANNAPOLIS (MD) – Defending Division III national champion
Zach Roseberry defeated four Division I wrestlers to win the heavyweight title and highlight Delaware Valley University's showing at the Navy Classic.
The Aggies were one of just two Division III teams – Johns Hopkins University the other – to compete in the 12-team tournament. DelVal racked up 37.5 points to place 11
th and they were just seven points behind Division I Brown University for the 10
th spot. Indiana University won the classic with 155.5 points while the host Midshipmen had 114.5 points.
Roseberry came back to the tournament where he suffered his lone loss of the 2015-16 season, a setback in the finals to a Division I wrestler from the University of Wisconsin. Since then, he has gone more than a calendar year without a loss, racking up 31 consecutive wins and a national championship along the way.
Roseberry entered Saturday's action with a 7-0 record, including a pair of wins over Division I wrestlers. Despite, the higher-level field, he was the top seed for the classic and opened with a 4-1 decision over Joe Bexley (The Citadel) and a 6-3 victory over Matt Voss (George Mason). That put Roseberry into the semifinals where he edged Tyler Greene (Bucknell), 4-3. He then captured the crown with a 5-3 decision over Jere Heino (Campbell).
DelVal also got a strong showing from returning national qualifier
Ben Schweiger as he went 5-2 at the tournament and placed fifth at 184 pounds. All five of the senior's victories came in the consolation bracket with four coming against Division I foes. He had two pins and one technical fall among his wins and then took an 8-6 decision over Garrett Hoffman (Bucknell) in the fifth-place match. Schweiger is now 9-4 on the season.

Kordell Rush (125), will return to action on Saturday, December 3 when they compete in the New Standard Corporation Invitational hosted by York College.
