YORK (PA) – The Delaware Valley University wrestling team placed 10
th out of 16 teams at the New Standard Corporation Invitational on Saturday.
The tournament was hosted by York College and nine of the participating teams were ranked in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Poll, including the 27
th-ranked Aggies.
DelVal was without the services of two-time All-American and second-ranked heavyweight junior
Zach Roseberry but still had three grapplers place at the event.
Senior
Conor Kirkegard took second place at 133-pounds. He won his first two bouts by pinfall before defeating ninth-ranked Ryan Flynn of York by a 10-1 score. Kirkegard fell in the final to Bryan Israel of Ithaca, 4-2. Israel is ranked eighth nationally in the weight class.
Sophomore
Tim Ambacher was victorious in his first two matches to reach the semifinals at 141-pounds. He suffered a 5-3 loss but bounced back with a win to reach the third-place match. Ambacher dropped a close 3-2 decision to finish fourth.
The final place winner was junior
Ben Schweiger at 165-pounds. He captured two bouts by fall and decision before conceding a narrow 4-3 decision in the quarterfinals. Schweiger bounced back for two victories by major decision in the consolation bracket. He then suffered back-to-back defeats and finished in sixth place.
At 125-pounds, sophomore
Brenden Velez was one win away from getting on the podium. He recorded three victories on the day with both of his losses coming at the hands of fourth-ranked James Kaishian of Ithaca.
Six Aggies picked up two wins in the tournament, including senior

Josh Richardson (184) and junior
