ANNAPOLIS (MD) – The Delaware Valley University wrestling team traveled to the United States Naval Academy to compete in the Navy Classic on Saturday.
The Aggies finished 10
th out of 10 teams but the other nine schools were all Division I programs.
Junior
Zach Roseberry took second at 285 pounds. He won his first three matches by fall, major decision and decision. Roseberry fell in the final by a 7-2 score to Wisconsin's Brock Horwath. It was Roseberry's first loss of the season and he now owns a 9-1 record.
At 133, senior
Conor Kirkegard dropped his first match against Cameron Kelly of Ohio University but managed to win two matches by major decision before suffering a fall to Ohio's Zak Hassan.
Also picking up wins against Division I opponents were sophomores
Bobby Trombetta (125) and
Brenden Velez (125) and senior
Nick Della Fera (174). Trombetta was pinned in his first match but defeated Princeton's Noah Ajram, 8-4 before falling to Ibrahim Banduka of George Mason, 7-5.
Velez had a technical fall over Navy's Jordan Denslow before dropping his next two matches. Della Fera had an 11-5 decision in the consolation bracket over Daniel Mika of George Mason.
DelVal is back in action on Saturday, December 5 when it visits York College (PA) for the New Standard Corporation Invitational (9:00 a.m.).
