AST STROUDSBURG (PA) – Delaware Valley College wrestlers
Alec Horan (165 pounds) and
Zach Roseberry (heavyweight) reached the semifinals of the prestigious East Stroudsburg University Open while other Aggie competitors had strong showings at the event.
The ESU Open attracts more than 500 wrestlers from Division I, II and III as well as unattached competitors. It is one of the biggest early-season events in the country.
Horan won three matches to move into the semifinals. The senior opened with a 4-1 triumph over Caleb Livingston of Division I Penn State and followed with a 6-1 decision over Vic Delmonico of Stevens Tech. Horan then edged Anthony Deprez of Division I Binghamton, 3-2, before falling to Ryan Preisch of Division I Lehigh.
Roseberry, a returning All-American (fourth as a freshman) and the number two ranked heavyweight in Division III, had four straights wins including two pins. He dropped his first foe, Grady DiAntonio of Division I Sacred Heart, in 4:30 before a 5-2 triumph over Colynn Cook of Division I Navy. Roseberry then pinned Alex Foley of Division I Drexel in 1:59, and reached the semis with a 5-2 decision over Ryan Appleby of Division II Kutztown. In the semis, Rosberry was matched up against Nick Nevills, an unattached wrestler who is a Penn State redshirt and the number one recruited heavyweight in the country. Nevills dropped Roseberry in 1:12 and he went on to win the heavyweight tournament title.

Aaron Karns won his first bouts to reach the 197-pound quarterfinals. He had a 4-2 decision over Brandon Litten of Division I Drexel and a 7-0 blanking of Karon Lucas-Tillery of the host Division II school. In the quarterfinals, Karns went yp against John Bolich of Lehigh and he dropped a 4-1 decision to the 2014 Division I national qualifier.
Chris Yocum was victorious in his first two matches in the 174-pound bracket.
Zac Haynes (133) won three matches in the consolation bracket while Josh Di Santo had two triumphs at 141.
