ITHACA (NY) – Ithaca College won eight of the 10 weight classes, including three pins, as the fifth-ranked Bombers notched a 34-9 home triumph over No. 23 Delaware Valley College.
Ithaca improved to 12-2 in dual meets while the Aggies dropped to 8-10. It was the second match against a nationally-ranked team in as many days for Delaware Valley as it dropped a 24-16 decision to No. 13 SUNY-Cortland on Friday evening.
Ithaca jumped out to a 12-0 lead after three bouts as nationally-ranked wrestlers Rick Gomez (eighth at 125) and Seth Ecker (third at 141 but wrestled at 133) earned decisions and Alex Gomez (eighth at 133 but wrestled at 141) notched a pin.
Delaware Valley got six back in a big way at 149 as second-ranked
Zak Andrews pinned two-time Division III 141-pound national runner-up Jeremy Stierly in 1:56. Andrews improved to 22-2 on the year and the senior also moved into a tie former All-Americans John Housekeeper and Barry Wise for fifth place on the Aggie all-time list with 108 wins.
However, the Bombers won five of the final six weights, including pins by Derek Brenon (157) and Matt Mahon (heavyweight) and a major decision by top-ranked Jules Doliscar (174). Delaware Valley's lone win down the stretch was an 8-7 triumph over Kyle McKeighan at 184 pounds.
