AGGIES WRAP UP DUAL MEET SEASON WITH 28-12 WIN AT HUNTER

NEW YORK (NY) – Delaware Valley College notched wins in seven weight classes as the Aggies ended the dual meet season with a 28-12 victory at Hunter College.

Delaware Valley, under new head coach Steve Cantrell, finished with a 10-11 record in head-to-head matches. Two of the setbacks were by just a single point and a third was by just five points. The team will now prepare for the Metropolitan Conference Championships at Elizabethtown College on Sunday, February 26. The 10 individual champions and 10 wild-card selections from the Metros will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships in Wisconsin on March 9 and 10.

Friday evening saw Delaware Valley jump out to a 9-0 lead thanks to wins by Charlie Frankel and Eric McCann at 125 and 133 pounds respectively. Frankel dropped Oliver Lopez with 40 seconds left in the opening period (2:20) to improve to 19-8 on the year. McCann also moved his mark to 19-8 with a 12-6 decision over Ryan Gerondal.

The Hawks (12-8) got six points at 141 as Sean Messina pinned James DeLillo late in the third period, but the Aggies answered with three straight triumphs for a 19-6 advantage. The run was started by returning All-American Zak Andrews as the second-ranked wrestler at 149 pounds improved to 25-2 with a 14-3 major decision over Chris Gogatz.
