EAST STROUDSBURG (PA) – For the third time this week, it came down to the final weight classes for Delaware Valley, but this one did not go in the Aggies' favor as Division II East Stroudsburg University pulled out a 24-19 victory.
It was the final dual meet of the year for Delaware Valley, ranked 21st in Division III, as it fell to 8-8-1. The other seven losses were to teams ranked in top 30 in Division III, but the squad still recorded its 41st-straight non-losing season. The Warriors improved to 8-9.
On Monday, the Aggies picked up a pin and decision in the final two weights to knock off 14th-ranked The College of New Jersey. Three nights later, they went to Division II Shippensburg and used two decisions and a pin in the last three bouts to down the Red Raiders.
This time, Delaware Valley had a 19-15 lead heading into the final two weights after
Charlie Frankel picked up a forfeit victory at 125 pounds. However, East Stroudsburg regained the lead at 21-19 as Jordan Toledo dropped
Zac Haynes in just 66 seconds of their 133-pound match.
That left it all in the hands of the 141 pounders as returning Division III All-American
Matt Ulrich (16-6) took on Division II regionally-ranked Adam Hluschak (21-11). Hlushack, ranked fifth in Super Region 1, gave the Warriors the win with an 8-2 decision.
Delaware Valley jumped out to a 10-0 lead thanks to a pin and major decision in the opening two bouts. At 149 pounds,
Zak Andrews improved to 25-6 on the season as he dropped Tyler Wilton with just 19 seconds left in the first period (2:41).
Jesse Harrington, ranked second at 157 pounds, follwed with a 15-6 major over Jesse Dunn for his 19th win in 24 matches.
The Warriors came back as regionally-ranked Thad Frick (fifth at 165) and Jeff Jacobs (fifth at 174) earned a major decision and a technical fall respectively to make it a 10-9 match. However, the Aggies got three more point at 184 as
Dan Daddino bumped up a weight class and posted a 5-4 decision over regionally-ranked Brendan McKeown.
East Stroudsburg made it a one-point match again at 197 as regionally-ranked Ed Ebewo scored a 12-10 decision over Division III nationally-ranked
Aaron Karns. Will Weaver then followed with a 5-3 decision at heavyweight to give the Warriors at 15-13 advantage. The forfeit at 125 flipped the lead back to Delaware Valley, but Toledo and Hluschak helped the Warriors rally one more time for the win.
