THREE AGGIES WIN TITLES, 11 PLACE IN TOP FOUR AT BOB QUADE OPEN

HACKETTSTOWN (NJ) – Delaware Valley College crowned three individual champions and had 11 overall placewinners as the eighth-ranked Aggies competed at the Bob Quade Open at Centenary College. Team scoring was not kept the event.

Zac Haynes (125), Jesse Harrington (157) and Aaron Karns (197) captured titles in their respective weight classes while Charlie Frankel (133), Zak Andrews (141), Dale Fava (165) and Zeke Pyle (heavyweight) reached the finals and were runners-up. Matt Ulrich (141) and Mike Chiapetta (165) placed third while James DeLillo (133) and Emmanuel Ajagbe (149) finished fourth.

Haynes notched a pair of 11-3 major decisions to reach the finals. He then registered a 9-7 triumph over Jose Vega of Centenary for his first championship of the year. The sophomore is now 6-2 on the season.

Harrington, ranked second in Division III in his weight class, won his first three matches by technical fall, major decision and decision (in overtime) to earn a right to wrestle for the crown. He faced Owen Vernon of Centenary and picked up a 19-3, technical-fall victory to up his season mark to 8-2.

Karns continued his stellar freshman campaign by winning his second title in three open invitationals (second in the other). He tallied a 3-2 decision and an 8-0 major decision in his opening matches and followed with a 9-4 triumph over J.J. Mitchell of Centenary in the finals. Karns is now 12-1 on the season.

Frankel and Fava each went 2-0 before falling by decisions in the finals. Andrews pinned his first three opponents, but dropped a one-point decision in the championship round. Pyle opened with three wins before falling by one in the finals.
