KUTZTOWN (PA) – Aaron Karns notched a pin at 197 pounds to help eighth-ranked Delaware Valley College post a 21-19 victory over Kutztown University (ranked 15th in Division II) and salvage a split of a tri-match. The Aggies dropped a 28-10 decision to Elizabethtown College earlier in the day.

Delaware Valley (1-1) fell behind 10-0 to the host Golden Bears thanks to a pin and major decision in the first two weight classes. The Aggies then ran off five straight victories by decision - Matt Ulrich (11-4 win at 141), Zak Andrews (8-2 win at 149), Emmanuel Ajagbe (6-4 at 157), Dale Fava (4-3 at 165) and Juan Vega (6-4 at 174) – for a 15-10 lead.

Kutztown's Tim Darling earned a pin over Mike DiGregorio at 184 pounds to give the Golden Bears a one-point lead with just two weight classes remaining. Karns stepped onto the mat and the rookie sensation improved to 9-1 on the season as he dropped Victor Montanez with 55 seconds left in the first period (2:05) to give the Aggies a 21-16 advantage. Kutztown won by decision at heavyweight but it wasn't enough as Delaware Valley came away with the win.

The opening match saw the Aggies and Elizabethtown tied a 6-6 after the first four weight classes. Delaware Valley picked up its wins from Andrews and Ajagbe at 141 and 149 respectively. However, 2010 All-American and second-ranked Jesse Harrington suffered an injury in his 157-pound match and had to default. That swung the match in the Blue Jays favor as they had a 12-6 lead and they added to it with a pin and two decisions in the next three weight classes. Karns gave Delaware Valley its last points of the match with a 9-1 major decision at 197, but a decision at heavyweight gave Elizabethtown the 28-10 victory.
