EAST STROUDSBURG (PA) –
Zak Andrews captured the 141-pound title while
Aaron Karns (197) and
Emmanuel Ajagbe (149) placed second and sixth in their respective weight classes to highlight Delaware Valley College's showing at the East Stroudsburg University Invitational.
Team scoring was not held at the event that featured a number of wrestlers from all divisions of competition.
Andrews went a perfect 5-0 at the tournament, including pins in his first three matches to reach the semifinals. He followed with a 7-6 win over Vinny Fava (unattached-Rider) in the semifinals and took the title with a 16-6 major decision over Mike Greck of Millersville). Andrews is now 12-1 on the season.
Karns improved to 7-1 on the year as the freshman followed his first-place showing at the Washington & Jefferson Open with a runner-up finish at East Stroudsburg. He used a pin and two decisions to reach the finals where he dropped a 6-3 decision to Matthew Wilps (unattached).
Ajagbe, ranked ninth in Division III, won four matches (two decisions, two major decisions) to reach the semifinals. He dropped a 17-4 major decision to Anthony Salupo (unattached-Lehigh) and then forfeited his two consolation matches to place sixth.
