GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) -- Gwynedd-Mercy College outscored Delaware Valley College, 44-31, in the second half as the Griffins erased a two-point deficit at the break and posted a 70-59 victory in the championship game of 2010 Residence Inn by Marriott/GMC Tip-Off Tournament.
Delaware Valley (2-1) took a 28-26 advantage into the intermission thanks to an 8-for-10 effort from the foul line compared to just 1-for-1 by Gwynedd-Mercy (2-1). The lead then went back-and-forth for the first 11 minutes of the second half with neither team leading by more than four.
The Aggies last held a four-point advantage with 10:51 left as
Sarah Innerst drilled a 3-pointer to make it 48-44. The Griffins scored five straight to gain the lead, but Innerst answered with a layup with 9:08 remaining for a 50-49 Delaware Valley advantage.
However, Gwynedd-Mercy took control of the game as it went on a 16-6 run for a 64-54 lead with 3:38 to go. The Aggies could not get any closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Senior guard
Brittany Battinieri was the lone Delaware Valley player to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. She had 28 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals over the two games, including 10 points in the title contest.
Jackie Shunkwiler had a team-high 21 points and also grabbed seven boards while
Emily Soper recorded 17 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks in the loss.
Brittany Neill hit six 3-pointers, finished with 22 points and six rebounds and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player for the Griffins.
