FOUR AGGIES WIN TITLES AT MESSIAH OPEN

GRANTHAM (PA) -- Four Delaware Valley College wrestlers claimed individual crowns as the fifth-ranked competed at the Messiah College Open on Saturday. Team scoring was not held at the event.

Nationally-ranked seniors Kyle Bilquist (heavyweight) and Martin Porter (184) topped their weight classes as did sophomore Zak Andrews (141) and freshman Emmanuel Ajagbe (149). Juniors Eric McCann and Dan Daddino reached the finals and finished in second place at 133 and 174 pounds respectively.

Bilquist, a two-time All-American who is currently ranked second in his weight class, went 4-0 and pinned two opponents, including one in 70 seconds against Jeremy Gross of Thaddeus Stevens in the finals. He is now 19-3 on the season and his 118 career wins is just four shy of tying current head coach and NCAA Hall of Famer Brandon Totten for the school's all-time record. In fact, if Bilquist wrestles in all of the remaining dual meets, his first chance at breaking the record could be the home regular-season finale and Senior Night against Centenary College on Wednesday, February 10.

Porter, ranked 10th at 184 pounds, wrestled up a weight class and went 3-0 to win his title. He earned pins in two of his wins including the finals where he needed just 34 seconds to drop Jon Weber of Liberty University. Porter is now 23-6 on the season.

Andrews pinned three of his four opponents on Sunday, including a 99-second handling of Josh Bressler in the finals. He has a won a team-high 27 matches (27-12) this season with 19 ending in pins.
Ajagbe continued his strong rookie campaign as needed five wins to capture his weight class. In the finals, he earned an 8-2 decision over Mark Cirello of Gloucester County College to improve to 21-6 on the year.

McCann (12-5) won his first three matches before falling by a 9-7 decision to Frank Cimato of Drexel University in the finals. Daddino (23-10) was also victorious in a trio of bouts to reach the finals. He suffered a 5-1 loss to Antonio Talley of Liberty.
