DELVAL DOWNS PENN STATE BRANDYWINE 66-48

MEDIA (PA) – Delaware Valley College went on a 20-0 run early in the first half and cruised to a 66-48 victory over host Penn State Brandywine in a non-conference game.

The win was the fifth straight for the Aggies as they improved to 13-5 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, January 30 when they host Misericordia University for a crucial Freedom Conference game. Both teams are tied for second in league action with 5-2 records.

The Nittany Lions (7-7) connected on a 3-pointer just 27 seconds into the game as Sarah DeBerardinis hit a shot from beyond the arc. However, it was all Delaware Valley from there as it connected on nine of its next 11 shots from the field and sprinted to a 20-3 advantage with 15:01 left on the clock. Brittany Battinieri led the run with seven points.

The Aggies continued their hot shooting for the rest of the stanza as they finished 14-for-28 from the field. Meanwhile, their defense held Penn State Brandywine to just 12.8 percent shooting from the field (5-for-39) and they took a 36-12 advantage into the break.

Penn State Brandywine opened the second half with seven consecutive points, but Delaware Valley countered with 11 straight of its own. The Aggies built the lead to as many as 33 points midway through the second and all 13 healthy players on the roster saw at least 10 minutes of action with 11 hitting the scoring column.

Freedom Conference Player of the Week Kim Vennera was 7-for-10 from the field and finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in 24 minutes. In the process, the senior became just the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,300-point plateau (1,313) for a career.

Jenna Peoples had 10 points, nine boards and four blocks in 17 minutes while Rochelle Teesdale added eight points and three assists. Battinieri and Missy Milanese notched seven points apiece while Brittney Zimmerman dished out six assists in 19 minutes of playing time.

DeBerardinis had a game-high 22 points for the Penn State Brandywine. Amber Chandler and Shari Harper combined for 12 points and 23 rebounds.
