About Men's Track And Field

The Aggie men's track and field program compete during the winter (indoor) and spring (outdoor) seasons. The men's team was the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) runner-up in five consecutive years from 1981 to 1985.

The recent years were dominated by the accomplishments of Tom Masterson, Travis Pitts and Ta'riq Thomas as they were three of just four Aggies to earn multiple All-America honors. Masterson placed in the top eight at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin while Pitts did the same in the 100-meter dash in both 2011 and 2012. Thomas earned seven All-America accolades over his four years, including two runner-up showings.

Masterson earned the MAC Field Athlete of the Year Award at the 2010 Outdoor Championship as he won the javelin and long jump titles. His javelin toss qualified him for the NCAA Division III Championships and he took 12th at that event. Masterson then took the same conference honors at the 2011 Indoor and Outdoor Championships. At the outdoor event, he successfully defended his javelin and long jump crowns and qualified for another trip to the NCAAs. He placed third for All-America honors. Masterson battled through an injury in 2012 and still qualified for nationals where he placed sixth in the javelin.

Pitts was named the MAC Track Athlete of the Year at the 2011 and 2012 Outdoor Championships as well as the 2012 Indoor Championships. He was a three-time 100-meter dash and two-time 200-meter dash champion in outdoors and was a three-time 55/60-meter dash and one-time 200-meter dash champion in indoors. In 2011, Pitts placed eighth in the 100 at the NCAA Championships and he followed it with a fourth-place showing last year. He owns the school record in a combined five events (indoor and outdoor).

The latest name to the MAC champion and All-America list was Thomas. In 2015, he won the triple jump and long jump titles at the MAC Indoor Championships and qualified for the NCAAs in both. Thomas then took the outdoor title in the triple jump and was named the MAC Rookie of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Thomas then went to the NCAAs and finished sixth in the triple jump for a spot on the national podium. For an encore in 2016, he won both the long and triple jump titles at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Thomas qualified for nationals in the triple jump and took third. In 2017, he won the MAC triple jump at both the indoor and outdoor championships and was the MAC Field Athlete of the Year. He was NCAA runner-up at the indoor championship and placed sixth at the outdoor event. Thomas capped his career in 2018 by winning four conference titles and was the MAC Field Athlete of the Year for both indoor and outdoor. At the NCAAs, he was third in the indoor long jump and followed up in the spring by placing second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.Â
