DelVal Wrestlers Sweep Pair Of Home Matches

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Wrestling in front of its home crowd for the time in more than two months, Delaware Valley University posted a pair of decisive victories on Saturday. The Aggies upended the Temple University club team, 40-10, and followed with a 37-3 triumph over Camden County College.

The wins improved DelVal's record in dual meets to 7-8 on the season.

DelVal won 17 of the 20 weight classes on the afternoon with four pins, three forfeits, one technical fall, three major decisions and six decisions. Three of the pins came against Temple as Anthony Snyder (157), Nicholas Bord (184) and Marc Isaac (285) notched first-period falls. In fact, Bord and Isaac had pins in the first minute of their respective matches.

The Aggies had a 16-0 lead after the first three weights thanks to forfeits to Kordell Rush (125) and Tim Ambacher (141) with a Brenden Velez, 8-0 major decision sandwiched in-between. Temple took two of the next three weights – Snyder's pin was in-between the two wins – for a 22-10 score.

Ellias Vega cruised to a 14-7 decision over Alex Cohen at 174 to stop the Owls' run. Bord followed with his pin before Carlos Martinez added a 5-2 decision over Ernie Tessien at 197. Isaac then ended the contest with his 55-second pin and the 40-10 final.

DelVal then looked to avenge last year's home loss to Camden County and did so in decisive fashion. After Rush was awarded a forfeit win at 125, Velez came out and had three near-falls, en route to a 17-1, technical fall victory over Alex Velez. Ambacher then earned a 14=4 major decision over Jason Groff for a 15-0 DelVal lead.

Dustin Childs then trailed 2-0 at 149 before a reversal eventually led to a pin with 18 seconds left in the first period. It was the first collegiate win for Childs and made it a 21-0 match.

After a win by the Cougars' Dom Demarco at 157, DelVal took the last four weights. Chris Richardson battled to a 7-5 decision over Aaron Solman at 165. Then at 174, Vega trailed Juan Ramos until a takedown with a minute left gave him a 3-2 lead. Ramos escaped with 27 seconds and the match seemed headed for overtime before Vega got a takedown just before the buzzer for a 5-3 victory.

Bord got his second win of the day with a 3-0 blanking of Matt O'Donnell at 184 and Martinez did the same with a 6-4 victory over Jason Carter. Isaac cruised to a 12-4 major decision over Mark Gillis, Jr. for the 37-3 final.

Camden County and Temple wrestled each other on Saturday and it was the Cougars who came away with the 29-15 victory.

DelVal will host Centenary University for Senior Night on Thursday, February 8 (7 p.m.).
