DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University junior
Ta'riq Thomas has qualified for the upcoming NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the triple jump. He was also named to the all-Mideast Region Team for both the triple jump and long jump by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
A three-time All-American (two outdoor, one indoor) in the triple jump, Thomas was one of 20 student-athletes to qualify for the NCAAs with the event taking place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Thomas posted his best mark of the season at the Swarthmore College Final Qualifying Meet last week as he had a jump of 48 feet, 10 inches. That was the eighth-best mark in Division III this season heading into the championships.
To be named all-region, a student-athlete must be ranked in the top five of an individual event in their region according to the final TFRRS data. Thomas had the top mark in the triple jump and was second in the long jump (23 feet, 3.5 inches at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship). He won the MAC outdoor triple jump championship for the third straight year and took second in the long jump.
Thomas was an outdoor All-American in the triple jump as a freshman in 2015 as he placed sixth at nationals. He followed it up with a third-place showing last season. This past winter, Thomas had his best national finish as he was the indoor runner-up.
