CHESTER (PA) -- Delaware Valley University junior All-American
Ta'riq Thomas competed one final time before next week's NCAA Division III Championships as he took first in the long jump and second in the triple jump at the Mideast Invitational (hosted by Widener University).
Thomas, who is nearly a lock for the NCAAs in the triple jump, placed second out of six competitors (first among collegiate athletes) with a mark of 14.13 meters. He is a three-time All-American in the triple jump, including a third-place showing at last year's Outdoor Championships and a runner-up finish at this year's Indoor Championships.
Thomas was looking to improve his chances at qualifying in the long jump as well. He took top honors out of eight competitors on Thursday with a leap of 7.07 meters, but he failed to moved up the national rankings.
The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27. The triple jump event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
