WESTFIELD (MA) – Delaware Valley University sophomore sensation
Ta'riq Thomas concluded his competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships by placing sixth in the long jump on Thursday.
Thomas, the lone Aggie competitor at the ECACs, recorded a leap of 22 feet, 4.25 inches to reach the podium in the number six spot. His three points in the event gave him 13 at the championship and put DelVal in a tie for 23rd place.
On Wednesday, Thomas captured his first ECAC outdoor crown (he won the triple jump at the 2015 Indoor Championships) as he topped all competitors in the triple jump with a distance of exactly 48 feet. That leap also moved him into fourth place in all of Division III and a near-certain bid to the NCAA Division III Championships which takes place from May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa. Thomas was a national qualifier as a freshman last year and earned All-America honors by finishing sixth (48-4).
The official announcement of the field (top 20 individuals qualify in each event) takes place Saturday morning.
