COLLEGEVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's track and field team opened its indoor season by placing eighth out of 12 teams at the Bow Tie Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
For the Aggies, it was their best finish in a meet that had team scoring since a sixth-place effort at the Ursinus Open back in 2012. They racked up 32.50 points to top Catholic University (30.5), the host Bears (28), Neumann University (18) and Immaculata University (6). Division II Lincoln College won the Classic with 134.5 points.
Freshman
Ricci Cleckner began her collegiate career on a high note as she took second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8 feet, 5.5 inches. She also earned points for DelVal by taking sixth in the high jump (4-0) and just missed on points in the long jump (9
th – 13-6.75).
Sydney Edwards joined the team this year and the senior placed fourth in the 500-meter run with a time of one minute, 46 seconds. The Aggies also received fifth-place showing from senior
Sara Chamberlain and sophomore
Rachel Landis. Chamberlain ran the 5,000-meter event in 21 minutes, 3.18 seconds while Landis was clocked at 2 minutes, 47.63 seconds in the 800-meter run.
DelVal also got points in the 4X200 and 4X400 relays. The team will return to action on Saturday, January 21 when they head back to Ursinus for the Collegeville Classic.
