DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College is proud to announce that
Felix Moreno has been named the new head coach of the Aggie men's and women's cross country and track and field (indoor and outdoor) programs. |
Moreno assumes the position which has been recently elevated to full-time. He brings 14 years of coaching experience in all aspects of cross country and track and field, including the past season when he joined the Delaware Valley track and field staff during the outdoor campaign.
"First I want to thank (athletic director)
Steve Cantrell for giving me this opportunity to join his administration and I am looking forward to working with him in any capacity," Moreno said. "It is my perception that Delaware Valley College is a great place with a sense of community and strong collaboration amongst staff members. It's also the perfect environment for a coach to teach and for student-athletes to learn and be successful in any aspirations of their choosing.
"My first order of business is to restructure the program to maximize our recruiting efforts while providing those student-athletes currently on the team with the best coaching staff we can provide. Our efforts will be to focus on increasing the numbers on our roster, be very competitive, and provide out student-athletes with the best possible experience."
Moreno was the head coach of both the cross country and track and field programs at Division I Saint Francis University (Loretto, PA) from 2007 to 2009. His 2009 indoor men's track and field squad captured the Northeast Conference (NEC) championship and Moreno was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year. Moreno coached a combined 26 men's NEC individual champions and 16 women's NEC individual champions during his three-year tenure.
Prior to Saint Francis, Moreno served for six years as the head coach of the men's and women's track and field squads at Division III Frostburg State University (Frostburg, MD). He coached seven conference individual champions, 15 NCAA qualifiers and three All-Americans at the institution.
Moreno's remaining coaching experiences includes assistant stints at Division III schools University of Wisconsin-Platteville (Platteville, WI) and SUNY Plattsburg (Plattsburgh, NY). He competed for NAIA Adams State College (Alamosa, CO) and helped set a 4X400 record back in 1993.
Moreno moved onto Plattsburgh and received a bachelor of arts degree in spanish in 1995. He then earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland (Cortland, NY) in 1999 and a master of science in education from Wisconsin-Platteville in 2000. He is currently working on his doctorate degree in administration and leadership studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (Indiana, PA).
"We are very excited that Felix has accepted the new full-time position as head coach of our men's and women's cross country and track and field teams at Delaware Valley College," Cantrell said. "He brings successful collegiate head coaching experience, knowledge of recruiting and great passion to our programs and we look forward to working with and supporting him in the department."
