FRANK WOLFGANG RECEIVES LOU SORRENTINO AWARD FROM THE MAC

Frank Wolfgang receives the Lou Sorrentino Award from FDU-Florham's Bill Klika
WILLIAMSPORT (PA) -- Longtime Delaware Valley College athletic director Frank Wolfgang was honored yesterday with the Lou Sorrentino Award as the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) celebrated the 2012-13 season with its 12th annual Awards Lunch.

The Lou Sorrentino Award was established in 2011 and is presented to the MAC athletics administrator who has had a sustained and influential role in conference and national affairs and embodies the NCAA Division III philosophy. In recognition of Sorrentino's career – he served Lebanon Valley College as a student-athlete, coach and athletic director for nearly 60 years from 1950 until his passing in November of 2010 – this award sets a high standard for participation and leadership in Division III sports.

Those traits certainly describe Wolfgang, who is in his 45th and final year at Delaware Valley and his 50th year in the conference. He has held a number of positions, including a 26-year run as athletic director. He oversees the Aggies' 17 Division III intercollegiate teams as well as physical education classes and intramurals. His tenure has seen tremendous growth and success with numerous conference championships and NCAA appearances.

Wolfgang spent 10 years with the Aggie men's basketball program as an assistant coach and then head coach, but his true coaching prowess came with the Delaware Valley baseball team, a position he held for 22 years (1974-75 and 1979-99). He holds the program record for wins with 249 and led his squad to the playoffs on four occasions. His last season as coach was, perhaps, the finest as the team set a school record with a 31-7 mark and went on to capture the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Region Championship. The baseball field on campus was renamed Frank Wolfgang Field in 2006.

Wolfgang was presented the award by Bill Klika, the athletic director at FDU-Florham who was the first recipient of the Lou Sorrentino Award last year. A video tribute was aired and it can be seen by clicking here
