COLLEGEVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley College men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2013-14 season by competing at the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus College. The men placed 16th out of 19 teams while the women were 19th out of 20.
The Aggie men picked up six points on the day with four coming from
Brian Carter. He finished in fifth place in the 60-meter dash thanks to a time of 7.15 seconds.
The 4X200 relay team of
Greg Rosario,
Charles Logue,
Aaron Rill and Peter Tantillo notched two points by placing ninth with a time of one minute, 40.50 seconds (two teams that finished ahead were "B" squads so points went out to the ninth and 10th place finishers). Senior
Jesse Ware also had a strong showing by taking 10th in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 11.50 inches.
On the women's side, 2013 NCAA outdoor qualifier
Alexis Maylor had a strong day as she placed in the top 15 in three events. Her time of 9.75 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles was good enough for sixth place and earned the team's three lone points on the day. The senior was also ninth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 10.25 inches and 15th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.70 seconds.
Michelle Salvemini and
Brittany Roberts each cleared the pole vault bar at exactly eight feet to finish in the top 10. Salvemini was credited with a ninth-place finish while Roberts was 10th.
Wesley College took top honors on the men's side with 93 points while Rowan University had 123 points to take home the women's crown.
Delaware Valley does not compete again for seven weeks until it heads to the Lebanon Valley College Invitational on January 25.
