FREDERICK (MD) – In its final regular-season competition before the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships, the Delaware Valley College men's and women's cross country teams each finished in seventh place at the 6th Annual Hood University Open.
The women had 178 points to place in the middle of the pack out of the 12 competing squads. St. Mary's College of Maryland took the title with 43 points while the host had 54 points to place second.
Individually, freshman
Samantha Will paced the Aggies again, this time she crossed the finish line 11th out of 94 runners with a 6K time of 26 minutes, 10.4 seconds. It was her best time of the year by 43 full seconds.
Fellow rookie
Sara Chamberlain took 21st with a time of 27 minutes, 16.1 seconds while senior
Stephanie Unger was 50th with a time of 20 minutes, 15.8 seconds. Senior
Laura Ludwig (32:38.1) and junior
Lily Beattie (33:30.5) placed 71st and 76th respectively.
On the men's side, Delaware Valley's 202 points had the squad tied with Mt. Aloysius University for the seventh spot out of nine teams. Hagerstown Community College bested St. Mary's by 20 points (47-67) for the crown.
Eighty-eight male runners hit the 8K course and
Andrew McMillan was the first to hit the tape as the senior was 24th with a time of 29 minutes, 23.3 seconds. Sophomore
Jason Doll was 17 spots behind as he was clocked at 30 minutes, 39.8 seconds. Classmate
Chris Beard took 56th (32:37.6) while sophomore
Sam McCaffrey (34:18.7) and junior
Patrick Hastings (35:52.9) placed 69th and 74th respectively.
Delaware Valley will have two weeks to prepare for the MAC Championships which will take place at nearby DeSales University (Center Valley, PA) on Saturday, November 2.
