ELIZABETHTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College sophomore
Alexis Maylor was named the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Female Field Athlete of the Year as she set a school and conference record in the heptathlon and placed in the top six in two other events at the conference championships held at Elizabethtown College.
Maylor recorded 18 of the Aggies' 40 points as the women finished in seventh place out of 10 teams. Messiah College captured the MAC crown with 189 points followed by Lebanon Valley College's 165 points.
Maylor competed in the heptathlon on Thursday and Friday and finished with a total of 4,244 points. The shattered the previous school record of 3,788 points by Randi Kunkel in 1987 and the MAC mark of 4,044 points by Messiah's Amy Reed in 2005. She finished first in five of the seven events that make up the heptathlon.
Maylor returned to the competition on Saturday and finished in fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 4.5 inches. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.13 seconds.
A school record fell on Saturday as well as senior
Rachelle Salem broke her own mark in the hammer throw with a toss of 125 feet, 11 inches. That was good enough for sixth place and she also took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 110 feet, 1 inch.
Senior All-American
Meghan Donovan finished in second place in the high jump as she cleared the bar at 5 feet, 3.75 inches. Donovan did not compete at last year's MAC Championships, but went on to nationals after a record-setting showing at the ECAC Championships. Donovan won the MAC outdoor crown in 2010 and took the last two indoor titles as well.
Junior
Tracey Forsythe had a runner-up showing and picked up eight points for Delaware Valley as well as she was clocked at 12 minutes, 22.15 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. That earned her first-team, all-conference accolades.
