DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College sophomore shortstop
Jackie Wear was named the 2012 Freedom Conference Player of the Year while senior outfielder
Erin Fox joined her on the first team.
Wear has had a year to remember as she has started 32 of the team's first 33 games and is tops in the Freedom Conference in seven different offensive categories: batting average (.496), slugging percentage (.878), on-base percentage (.550), hits (57), doubles (18), total bases (101) and stolen bases (22). She is second in home runs with eight and third in runs scored with 38, and just one off the top mark in each category.
Wear has tied or set four Delaware Valley single-season records (hits, doubles, home runs and runs) and has had a hit in all but two games this season. She has 20 multiple-hit games, 14 multiple-run games and nine multiple-RBI games to her credit.
Fox picked up the first all-conference accolade of her career. She has started 31 games this season and trails only Wear in the Freedom in batting (.485), slugging (.777), on-base (.534) and hits (50). She is also second in the conference and set an Aggie single-season record with 37 RBIs.
Delaware Valley holds a 16-17 overall record (6-8 in the Freedom) and will wrap up its season with a non-conference home doubleheader against Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, May 2 (3:30 p.m.).
