DELVAL ENDS SEASON WITH TWO LOSSES TO ST. MARY'S

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – St. Mary's College (Md) made the four-plus hour trip to Pennsylvania and spoiled Delaware Valley College's Senior Day by taking a pair of non-conference games from the Aggies, 15-7 and 5-4.

It was the season finales for both teams as Delaware Valley, which was in contention for a Freedom Conference playoff berth through the last day of the league schedule, finished with a 16-22 record. The two wins gave St. Mary's a final mark of 17-19.

The Aggies recognized their six seniors – Jake Barben, Matt Bodine, Dan Hrubos, Mike Otstot, Spencer Smith and Cory Weingart – in-between the two contests. Smith then took the mound for game two for his first collegiate start after 41 appearances from the bullpen. He kept the Seahawks in check and went one batter into the sixth inning. His final line was two runs allowed and four hits while fanning one.

St. Mary's held a 1-0 lead going into the sixth when John Stewart led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on an RBI single by Zach Nadolny. Later in the stanza, Matt Holdefer hit a two-out, two-run single to make it 4-0.

Delaware Valley got one back in the bottom of the inning as Hrubos led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Weingart. The Seahawks countered in the top of the seventh as Corey Napier drilled a two-out solo home run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jeff Sennett singled and the next two batters reached on an error with a run scoring in the process to make it a 5-2 ballgame. A fielder's choice by Otsot was the first out in the inning, but a run scored on the play. After a strikeout, Weingart ripped a double to plate Otstot and put the tying run on second base. However, St. Mary starter Devon Jerrard finished off his complete game with his 11th strikeout.

The first game was all Seahawks as they scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. They had six hits in the stanza and also took advantage of two Aggie miscues as 11 batters went to the plate.

Delaware Valley got two back in its half of the inning, but St. Mary's followed with two runs in the third, five in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 15-2 advantage. The Aggies notched four tallies in the fifth and one in the sixth to complete the scoring.

Stewart was a home run shy of the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs for the Seahawks. Napier and Alex Lenovitz combined to go 5-for-11 with four runs scored and six RBIs. Mike Victory went six innings and picked up the win.

Bodine was 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Aggies while Brandon Bell and Mike Ferrier each went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Jordan Heisler took the loss.
