Delaware Valley College head football coach Jim Clements recently received his Tri-State Coach of the Year Award at the 75th annual Maxwell Football Club Awards Dinner, which was held at the Harrah's Atlantic City Resort.
A crowd of nearly 1,000 attended the gala that included honorees Brady Hoke (University of Michigan head coach),Andrew Luck (Stanford University quarterback), Archie Manning (National Football Foundation), Mike McCarthy (Green Bay Packers head coach) and Mike Tirico (ESPN/ABC broadcaster). The awards dinner was also broadcasted live on ESPN3.
Delaware Valley College had three tables of supporters, including President Dr. Joseph S. Brosnan, and they made their presence known with one of the loudest cheers of the evening when Clements received his award from former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback great and Maxwell Club President Ron Jaworski and former Delaware Valley head coach and current University of South Carolina quarterback coach G.A. Mangus.
Mangus introduced Clements before a short video that highlighted Clements and his team. He discussed how he first hired Clements as his defensive coordinator and called it "the best decision that I have ever made." He went on to say, "I'm very proud to introduce not only a great, great football coach, one of the best defensive coaches that I've ever been around, but one of my very good personal friends."
Clements took over as head coach of Delaware Valley when Mangus moved onto the Division I ranks after the 2005 season. Since then, the Aggies have produced a 51-17 record with four Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championships and three trips to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The three-time reigning MAC Coach of the Year led Delaware Valley to a perfect 10-0 regular season in 2011 and the team eventually finished 11-1 run with a conference crown and a NCAA berth.
In his acceptance speech, Clements thanked Brosnan and many others for their support and he called Delaware Valley College "a very special place." He concluded his speech by stating, "I'm proud to accept this award on behalf of all of our players, and all of our coaches and administration, (and) all of our alumni at Delaware Valley College. GO AGGIES!"
