DELVAL MOURNS THE PASSING OF FORMER AGGIE GREAT DON MARSHALL

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College community was saddened to learn the news of the passing of Don Marshall, who lost his battle with cancer Tuesday afternoon at the young age of 27.

Marshall studied criminal justice while at Delaware Valley and also shined on the football field as he was one of the key players behind the amazing turnaround of the program. He was a starting wide receiver from 2003 to 2006 and was part of the winningest class in program history as Delaware Valley went 41-7 with two Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship, two trips to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals and two appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference playoffs (one bowl championship, one runner-up) during that time. The Aggies were 2-8 the season before Marshall's arrival and had not had a winning season since 1985.

Marshall was a three-time all-conference and all-region honoree who also garnered preseason All-America honors in 2006. He finished his career second on the school's all-time list with 29 receiving touchdowns and was third in both receptions (159) and receiving yards (3,055 yards). Marshall still holds the single-game record for receiving yards (251 against Juniata in 2005) as well as the longest reception in a game (98 yards vs Susquehanna in 2004). He served as a team captain in 2006

“Don was a just a great guy and he left us way too early,” Delaware Valley College head coach Jim Clements said. Clements was the defensive coordinator for two of Marshall's year and was then his head coach in 2006. “He meant so much to the team, the players and the coaches. He was one of the key guys behind our success and the kind of individual that you want to build a program around.”

Marshall was recently coaching back at his high school alma mater, Bladensburg High School, in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Information on services is not yet available.
