DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College football team is ranked in the Division III top 25 preseason polls in both
Lindy's and
Sporting News college football preseason publications. In addition, senior defensive end
Mike Jaskowski was named to both preseason All-America Teams.
The Aggies are listed 24th in
Lindy's and they hold the number 25 spot in
Sporting News. Eleven starters (two offense, eight defense, one specialty) are back from a 2010 team that posted a 9-3 record, captured its third consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs for the second straight year.
Lindy's provides one line of information on all of the top 25 teams and writer Dominic DiRienzo stated the following about Delaware Valley: “
24. Delaware Valley – DE Mike Jaskowski and defense will have to carry Aggies.”
In the preseason story,
Sporting News' Mike Goens wrote the following:
“Delaware Valley (9-3) must rebuild an offense that loses nine starters, but the Aggies are still expected to win the Middle Atlantic Conference and return to the playoffs. Their defense will likely take them there as Mike Jaskowski (65 tackles, 9.5 sacks), safety Ryan McCullough, linebackers Jim DiLisio and Ken Fowlkes and cornerback Terrance Osborne are set to stop opponents in their tracks. The offense is young but possesses one of the top linemen in the East in John Lavelle.”
Jaskowski moved from linebacker to defensive end prior to last season and put up numbers that led to him earning 2010 honorable mention All-America honors from
D3football.com. He led the team with 9.5 sacks and also finished with 65 tackles (12.5 behind the line of scrimmage), two interceptions (one of which he returned for a touchdown) and two blocked kicks.
Three of Delaware Valley's 2011 opponents are mentioned in the
Sporting News preview. Presidents Athletic Conference powerhouse Washington & Jefferson College is ranked 16th and will host the Aggies on September 10 in the second and final year of the “PAC-MAC Challenge Series.” Conference foes Lycoming College and Wilkes University are among 13 teams listed under the heading “Others To Watch.” Delaware Valley will travel to both opponents as it takes on Wilkes on October 8 and heads to Williamsport for a meeting with Lycoming on November 5.
Delaware Valley will open the 2010 campaign on Saturday, September 3 (1:00 p.m.) when it hosts Muhlenberg College for a non-conference game.
