NO. 4 ITHACA DOWNS NO. 23 DELVAL, 41-3

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Ithaca College won nine of 10 weight classes and picked up bonus points in six of them, as the fourth-ranked Bombers defeated No. 23 Delaware Valley College, 41-3, to end the Aggies' 27-match home winning streak.

The win improved Ithaca to 11-2 on the season while the Aggies fell to 6-6-1. It was their first loss in James Work Gymnasium since a setback to No. 1 Wartburg College back in the 2005-06 season

The match began at 174 pounds where David Priest, ranked ninth in Division III in his weight class, gave the Bombers a 6-0 lead by dropping Juan Vega in with four seconds left in the second period (4:56). The advantage jumped to 10-0 after Keith Dickie earned a 10-2 major decision over Jake Phillips at 184 pounds.

Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard at 197 pounds as freshman Aaron Karns improved to 22-2 on the season thanks to a 7-2 decision over Tom Heckman. The match was tied at 2-2 heading into the third period when Karns registered an escape and a takedown and was awarded a penalty point (stalling) and riding time.

However, that proved to be the only win of the night for the Aggies as Ithaca took the final seven weight classes. The run began at heavyweight where sixth-ranked Matt Mahon needed just 22 seconds to down Zeke Pyle. The 125-pound match went to overtime where the Bombers' Dominic Giacolone earned a takedown with 18 seconds left. Giacolone had Charlie Frankel down on his back so the match continued and he notched the pin 10 seconds later for a 22-3 team score.

Fourth-ranked Seth Ecker followed at 133 pounds with a 7-0 blanking of Delaware Valley's Zac Haynes while No. 2 Jeremy Stierly added an 11-0 major decision over returning All-American Matt Ulrich at 141. Yet another ranked wrestler hit the mat for Ithaca at 149 as No. 2 Blaine Woszczak pinned returning national qualifier Emmanuel Ajagbe in 3:34 for a 35-3 advantage.

The top two wrestlers in Division III's 157-pound weight class met as Delaware Valley's Jesse Harrington (16-3) took on second-ranked Derek Brenon (19-1). After a scoreless first period, Harrington escaped 55 seconds into the second for a 1-0 advantage. Brenon got an escape of his own just five ticks into the third. Brenon then took the lead with a takedown with 53 seconds remaining. Harrington escaped 20 seconds later but Brenon held on and also had riding time in his favor for a 4-2 decision.

Ithaca's Jason Fraser ended the evening with an 11-5 decision over Mike Chiappetta at 165 pounds.
