AGGIES RANKED EIGHTH IN DIVISION III BY USA TODAY

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College football team is ranked in another preseason publication as this time the Aggies are eighth in the USA Today College Football Division III Preseason Top 25. Senior linebacker Kyle Gesswein is listed as one of four players to watch in the country.

Earlier this month, Delaware Valley was ranked seventh in the preseason college football publications distributed by both Lindy's and The Sporting News. D3football.com, the number one source for Division III football information, will release its preseason poll in late August.

Delaware Valley has 18 starters (8 offense, 8 defense, 2 specialty) back from a team that notched a 10-2 record, captured its second straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Aggies are the lone MAC team to be ranked in the USA Today poll.

One of the reasons for the high expectations is the return of Gesswein. The 2009 MAC and D3football.com East Region Defensive Player of the Year led Delaware Valley in tackles (98), tackles for loss (18), sacks (11) and forced fumbles (three) and also notched four pass breakups, one interception and one blocked kick. He became Delaware Valley's all-time leader in sacks with 30 and was named a first team All-American by D3footballcom.

In his write-up of the four Players To Watch In Division III, USA Today's Pat Coleman said the following of Gesswein:

“Gesswein is the school's career leader in sacks with 30 entering his senior year. He recorded 11 last year, including two against Albright in an NCAA playoff game.”

USA Today also mentioned the September 11 match-up between the Aggies and Presidents' Athletic Conference champion Washington & Jefferson College as the headliner of the 2010 PAC-MAC Challenge where teams from both conferences will face off on the gridiron. That is the second game of the year for Delaware Valley, which will open the campaign at Muhlenberg College on Saturday night, September 4 (7:00 p.m.).
