CHESTER (PA) – The Delaware Valley women's track and field team finished in eighth place out of 11 teams at the three-day, 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championships held at Widener University.
The Aggies registered 36 points to top Albright College, Manhattanville College and Shenandoah University. Messiah College captured the team crown with 193 points, 14 more than runner-up Elizabethtown College.
Meghan Donovan captured the high jump title on Friday to highlight the team's showing. The sophomore cleared the bar at 5 feet, 4.25 inches to top the runner-up by two inches. Donovan was the 2009 runner-up and later qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships after reaching the qualifying standard at the ECAC Championships.
Saturday's top performances were led by junior
Caitlin Dorgan as the 2009 cross country national qualifier finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17 minutes, 54.50 seconds.
Jennifer Alderfer and
Kathy LeHew each placed in the top eight in a pair of events to registered points for the squad. Alderfer was seventh in the 200-meter dash (27.51) and eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.33). LeHew took sixth in both the 400-meter dash (1:02.01) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:11.47). The Aggie 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams took fifth (4:11.55) and seventh (53.08) respectively.
On Friday,
Tracey Forsythe and
Rachelle Salem tallied points for Delaware Valley. Forsythe, a freshman, finished in fifth place and broke her own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12 minutes, 10.87 seconds. Salem took eighth in the discus and the sophomore had a throw of 101 feet, 11 inches.
