DALLAS (PA) – The Delaware Valley College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a combined 11 individual champions as the Aggies competed at the 6th annual Ed Markiewicz Invitational at Misericordia University. Team scoring was not held at the event.
The Delaware Valley men had seven, first-place finishers including
Tom Masterson and
Frank Visconti who won a pair of events apiece. Masterson took first in the long jump (6.97 meters) and triple jump (13.30 meters) while Visconti was tops in both the discus (41.36 meters) and shot put (14.82 meters).
Travis Pitts crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.02 seconds.
Joe DiPetrillo was first in the javelin (51.41 meters) while Michael Theiss took top honors in the hammer throw (38.04 meters).
Delaware Valley also had a trio of runner-up finishers in Masterson (100-meter dash),
Anthony Jackson (triple jump) and
Chris Whitley (discus). Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams also took second on the day.
The Aggie women saw familiar faces finish on top of their events in
Meghan Donovan,
Caitlin Dorgan,
Tracey Forsythe and
Rachelle Salem. Donovan cleared the high jump bar at 1.65 meters while Dorgan ran the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes, 58.43 seconds. Forsythe won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12 minutes, 21.48 seconds, and Salem eclipsed her own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 33.79 meters.
Salem was also second in the shot put while
Kathy LeHew (400-meter hurdles) and
Meghan Tyman (100-meter dash) also had runner-up showings. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed second as well.
Delaware Valley will now prepare for the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships which take place at Widener University from May 6 to May 8.
