DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Six members of the Delaware Valley College field hockey team were recently named to the 2009 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Academic Squad while the Aggies also received a National Academic Team Award.
The Team Award recognizes programs that achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year. Individuals who have a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA through the first semester are named to the National Academic Squad. The six Aggies honored were senior
Bethany Pavlik (Lewes, DE/Sussex Technical), juniors
Katy Provenzale (Andover, NJ/Newton) and
Holly Rich (Wharton, NJ/Roxbury), sophomores
Missy Milanese (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and
Erica Traynor (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and freshman
Krystle Mazza (Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong).
Pavlik, an equine science and management major, was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year as the three-time all-conference honoree had 13 goals and four assists for 40 points on the year. Provenzale, a marketing major, keyed an Aggie defense that notched five shutouts on the year. A secondary education major, Rich tallied eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Milanese, a sports management major, saw playing time in 18 contests and had one goal and one assist for three points. Traynor, a small animal science major, appeared on defense in three games. Mazza played in seven contests and the marketing major had one goal for two points.
Delaware Valley posted a 10-10 overall record and qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs with a 4-3 mark in league action. The Aggies took eventual conference champion Eastern University to overtime before falling in the semifinal contest.
