CHESTER (PA) – The Delaware Valley College men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2010 outdoor season by competing at the Danny Curran Invitational held at Widener University. Team scoring was not held at the two-day event.
Several Aggies had strong showings, including sophomore standouts
Tom Masterson and
Travis Pitts. Masterson took second out of 56 competitors in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 7 inches, and was third out of 53 in the javelin with a throw of 187 feet, 10 inches. He also qualified for the ECAC Championships in both events.
Pitts, the defending Middle Atlantic Conference champion in the 100-meter dash, entered a field that consisted of 80 sprinters. His time of 11.21 seconds ranked him sixth in the event. Pitts also took ninth out of 114 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.86 seconds.
Masterson and Pitts teamed with
Naadir Betts and
Anthony Jackson to finish third out of 21 teams in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.46 seconds.
Frank Visconti took third out of 54 competitors in the shot put (46-4.25) while Michael Theiss broke his own school record and placed 11th in the hammer throw (129-0).
The Delaware Valley women's hammer throw record also fell as
Rachelle Salem broke her own mark and finished seventh out of 20 with a toss of 103 feet, 9 inches.
2009 national qualifier
Meghan Donovan tied for third out of 20 in the high jump as the sophomore cleared the bar at 5 feet, 1.75 inches. Kathy Lehew also finished in the top 10 as her time of 1 minute, 9.96 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles was good enough for seventh place out of 25 competitors.
