DELVAL DROPS THREE IN FLORIDA

COCOA BEACH (FL) – Delaware Valley College had another tripleheader on its Spring Break trip to Florida and the Aggies suffered three losses. They dropped 5-1 and 8-2 decisions to Rhodes College and ended the long day with a 7-6 setback to NAIA program Valley City State University.

Delaware Valley is now 3-4 on the season with one varsity game remaining on the trip down South. Rhodes improved to 18-4 while Valley City State moved its mark to 13-3.

In the opener against Rhodes, the Aggies got their lone run in the seventh on an RBI double by Keri Hardiman which scored Jess Bensinger. Bensinger, Hardiman and Dani Walton had the only hits of the day off Chelsea Peters while Greer McComas took the loss despite allowing just one run in four-plus innings.

The Lynx completed the sweep by scoring three times in the first inning and building the lead to 6-0 through five innings. Delaware Valley scored twice in the seventh on freshman Greer McComas' first collegiate home run. She was 2-for-3 along with Bethany Pavlik. Becky Furman suffered the loss.

The Valley City State game saw the Aggies tie it up at 4-4 as they scored three times in the top of the fourth. The big hit in the inning was a two-out, two-run single by Hardiman. The Vikings responded with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 7-4 lead. Delaware Valley made things interesting in the seventh as Furman knocked in two with a two-out pinch-hit single. However, Valley City State got the next batter on a ground out to pull out the win.

Hardiman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Pavlik was 2-for-4. McComas went the distance and allowed just three earned runs.
