ANNVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley College softball team has been picked to finish fourth and reach the Freedom Conference playoffs according to the preseason coaches' poll that was released by the conference office.
The Aggies received 38 points and trailed only defending champion Miserciordia University (52 points), DeSales University (50 points) and King's College (47 points) in the eight-team poll. The entire 2010 Freedom Conference preseason coaches' poll is as follows (number in parentheses indicated first-place votes):
1. Misericordia University -- 52 points (4)
2. DeSales University -- 50 points (3)
3. King's College -- 45 points (1)
4. Delaware Valley College -- 38 points
5. Wilkes University -- 34 points
6. FDU-Florham -- 25 points
7. Manhattanville College -- 22 points
8. Eastern University -- 20 points
Head coach Rich Matarese and the Aggies are coming off a season that saw them finish 14-16 overall, 10-6 and in third place in the Freedom Conference. That put them in the conference playoffs for the second straight year.
This year's Freedom Conference Softball Championships will take place at Delaware Valley College on May 7 and 8.
