DELAWARE VALLEY TO HOST FUNDRAISER FOR THE V FOUNDATION ON FEBRUARY 13

DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College athletic department will hold a fundraiser for The V Foundation during its home basketball doubleheader with Wilkes University on Saturday, February 13 (women tip-off at 1:00 p.m., men tip-off at 3:00 p.m.).

Known as the "4th Annual DVC/Jimmy V Basketball Doubleheader," all proceeds from admission into the games, the concession stand and other donations will go towards the effort. It is part of the Delaware Valley athletic department and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) efforts to promote positive student-athlete experiences through a number of activities. Last year's event, which included a wrestling match on the Friday evening before the basketball doubleheader, raised more than $1,500 for the foundation.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator. It is a charitable organization that is dedicated to saving lives by helping to find a cure for cancer. Since 1993, The V Foundation has raised more than $90 million and awarded cancer research grants in 37 states and the District of Columbia. As of October 1, 2006, 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events contributed to The V Foundation will be used to fund cancer research and related programs.

"This has now become an annual event on our calendar and we are very happy to take part in the fight against cancer with The V Foundation," Delaware Valley College athletic director Frank Wolfgang said.

Both basketball games are crucial Freedom Conference contests for Delaware Valley and it will also be Senior Day as it is the final home date of the regular season. The Aggie women are currently tied for second place in the league standings while the men are in the hunt for a second consecutive playoff berth.

Fans who cannot attend either game can also make a donation towards the fundraiser by sending a check (payable to "The V Foundation") to the following address:

Athletic Department
Delaware Valley College
700 East Butler Avenue
Doylestown, PA 18901
