DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College junior guard
Brittany Battinieri (Eddystone, PA/Ridley) has been named the Freedom Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending February 7.
Battinieri hit 14, 3-pointers and scored 57 points over two games, including nine treys and 42 points in an 84-77 loss at two-time defending conference champion DeSales University on February 6. The nine bombs tied a school-record while her 19 attempts in the game set a new mark. The 42 points was one shy of the Aggie record that backcourt mate
Kim Vennera notched, ironically, against DeSales last season. Battinieri opened the week with five treys and 15 points in an 81-54 rout of Freedom foe FDU-Florham on February 3.
Battinieri leads the conference in 3-pointers with 59 and that total also has her tied for seventh on Delaware Valley's single-season list. She needs five treys to move all the way up to fourth and is 17 shy of tying the school record of 76 held by former teammate Moira Donohue (2007-08). Battinieri is also fourth in the Freedom in assists (3.9 avg) and seventh in scoring (13.2 avg).
The loss to DeSales snapped the Aggies' seven-game winning streak and they are now 15-6 overall, 7-3 and tied with both DeSales and Misericordia University for second place in the conference. King's College is a game behind at 6-4 and Delaware Valley heads to Wilkes-Barre to take on the Lady Monarchs on Wednesday, February 10 (6:00 p.m.).
