DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College senior defender/midfielder
Katy Provenzale has been named the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) Scholar-Athlete for the sport of field hockey.
Provenzale is the third Delaware Valley student-athlete in as many years to receive the award as Ralph Stambaugh took home the '08 accolade for football and former teammate
Bethany Pavlik was the 2009 field hockey recipient. Provenzale will be honored at a conference luncheon in May.
Provenzale played a major role on the Aggie defense during her four-year career. The team recorded at least four shutouts each season and qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs in both 2009 and 2010. This past season, Provenzale served as a team captain and saw time at midfield as well as on defense. She scored her first collegiate goal and assisted on three others for five points. Provenzale was also the Delaware Valley representative on the conference's all-sportsmanship team for the second straight year.
Academically, Provenzale is a marketing major who is expected to graduate at the end of this month. She currently holds a 3.95 cumulative grade point average and has been a three-time member of the conference's fall all-academic team. She has also been a two-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Academic Squad and was named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team (this year's squads for both have yet to be announced).
The MAC comprises of the 16 colleges and universities that make up the Middle Atlantic Conference, Freedom Conference and Commonwealth Conference. The MAC Awards Committee bases selection in the 22 sports the conferences sponsor on academic record (50%) and athletic prowess (50%). The student-athlete must be a senior with a minimum grade point average of 3.2.
