THREE AGGIES NAMED TO PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER FALL ACADEMIC ALL-AREA TEAMS

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer Fall Academic All-Area Teams were recently announced and Delaware Valley College had three student-athletes honored: Dan Heiland (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) of the football team and Bethany Pavlik (Lewes, DE/Sussex Technical) and Katy Provenzale (Andover, NJ/Newton) of the field hockey team.
Heiland earned a spot on the academic team for the first time in his career. The junior wide receiver hauled in 37 passes for 519 yards and two touchdowns for an Aggie squad that went 10-2, captured its second straight Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Heiland is a business education major who holds a 3.27 cumulative grade point average.
The academic honor is the fifth for Pavlik, who has been named three times to the field hockey team and twice to the softball team. She was the 2009 Freedom Conference Field Hockey Player of the Year (first Aggie to receive that honor) as she notched 13 goals and four assists for 30 points while leading the Aggies to a spot in the conference playoffs (they lost an overtime decision to nationally-ranked and eventual champion Eastern University. Pavlik finished her field hockey career as the school’s all-time leader in assists with 28 while her 48 goals and 124 points rank second. She is an equine science and management major who holds a 3.79 cumulative grade point average.
Provenzale also played a key role in the Aggies' run to the postseason as the junior defender helped the team allow an average of just 1.8 goals and 13.7 shots per game. The defense also recorded five shutouts. Provenzale is a marketing major and has a 3.95 cumulative grade point average to her credit.
To be nominated for a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in class standing and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The teams are then voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
