AGGIES ANNOUNCE 2009 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Head coach Jim Clements and the Delaware Valley College football team have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2009 season – a slate that includes five opponents who reached the postseason in '08.

The Aggies were a playoff squad themselves in 2008 as they captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Atlantic Bowl title with a 16-7 victory over Kean University. That capped an 8-3 season that also saw them earn a share of their third Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) crown in the last five years.

Delaware Valley will kick off the 2009 campaign on Saturday, September 5 when it hosts Johns Hopkins University of the Centennial Conference for Aggie Hall of Fame Day and a rare, 2:00 p.m. start. The Blue Jays posted an 8-3 record last year and reached the ECAC Southeast Bowl where they lost to Catholic University.

The following Saturday, the Aggies will hit the road to Union, New Jersey and face the team they beat in the ECAC Bowl game in Kean. The Cougars, who are members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, went 7-4 last season.

The third and final non-conference game on the Delaware Valley schedule is slated for Saturday, September 19 when the Aggies host another team out for revenge in Wesley College. The Wolverines were ranked third in Division III last year when they travelled to Doylestown in early September and suffered a 25-22, last-second defeat. They recovered to go 9-2 and reach the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The Aggies will have an off week before entering the seven-game MAC portion of their schedule. The first conference game will take place in Annville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 3 when they battle Lebanon Valley College. The Flying Dutchmen went 6-4 overall and were in contention for a share of the MAC crown on the last day of the regular season.

Delaware Valley will then be in the friendly confines of James Work Memorial Stadium on back-to-back Saturdays. On October 10, the squad will host FDU-Florham for Family Weekend. One of the Devils' three wins last year was a 19-14 upset of the Aggies in Madison, New Jersey. Following the FDU-Florham contest, Delaware Valley will welcome Wilkes University (4-6) to town for Homecoming.

The Aggies will hit the road for games seven and eight, including a return trip to Williamsport and a meeting with Lycoming College on Saturday, October 24. The Warriors notched a 10-7 victory last year, en route to a 7-4 record and a share of the MAC crown. They earned the bid to the NCAA playoffs thanks to the conference tiebreaker and suffered a loss in the first round. Delaware Valley will follow that trip with a journey to Wilkes-Barre and a match-up with King's College (3-7) on October 31.

In week nine (November 7), the Aggies will host Albright College for the second consecutive year. The two met in the regular-season finale last year with the Lions needing a win to claim the outright MAC title and a bid to the NCAA playoffs. Instead, Delaware Valley notched a 34-9 victory and forged a three-way tie for the conference crown. Albright then went to the ECAC South Central Bowl where a victory over Montclair State gave them an 8-3 record.

Delaware Valley concludes the regular season on Saturday, November 14 when it travels to Chester for a battle with Widener University. The Keystone Cup will be on the line in the meeting of archrivals and the Aggies will look to capture the Cup for the fifth time in the last six years, including a 34-28 triumph last season. The Pride finished the '08 campaign with a 4-6 record.

Clements is expecting 12 starters back from last year, including seven on the offensive side of the ball. Heading the group of returnees will be senior quarterback and 2008 MAC Offensive Player of the Year Mike Isgro. Isgro completed 144 of 265 passes for 1,787 yards, 21 touchdowns and just five interceptions while also rushing rushed for 366 yards and two scores a season ago.
