AGGIES END DUAL MEET SEASON WITH 38-9 VICTORY OVER DIVISION I MILLERSVILLE

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College wrestling team, which is tied for second in the Division III rankings, ended its dual meet season with a 21-1-2 record thanks to a 38-9 home victory over Division I Millersville University.

The Aggies added to its school-record for wins in a season as the previous mark was 18-0 by the undefeated 1988-89 squad. It was also their fourth win of the season (4-0) against Division I programs. The Marauders saw their record fall to 8-8.

Delaware Valley won the first three matches of the evening, including a pin and a technical fall, to jump out to a 14-0 lead. Chris Sheetz, ranked fourth in Division III at 125 pounds, improved to 31-4 on the year as he opened the evening with a 3-2 decision over Desmond Moore.

Senior Brandon Clemmer, wrestling in his final match in front of the home crowd, was ahead 2-0 when he turned John Andel over and pinned him in just 1:42. Clemmer, ranked third nationally at 133, ran his mark to 26-6 with the victory.

Eric McCann then notched nine takedowns and a near fall, en route to a 22-6, technical fall victory over Sean Andel at 141 pounds. The victory was McCann's 20th in 29 matches this season.

Millersville got on the board at 149 pounds as used as Mike Greck (13-9) two takedowns and a near fall in the third period to earn a 7-3 decision over Dale Fava. The 157-pound match between Delaware Valley's Robbie Hickman and the Marauders' J.J Lester went into overtime as Hickman rode Lester for the entire third period to earn riding time and a 3-3 tie. In the extra session, Hickman (16-11) needed just 28 seconds to register a takedown for the victory and a 17-3 Aggie lead.

At 165, Delaware Valley's Justin Barowski registered a takedown late in the second period to trail Jeremy Brooks by just one, 5-4. However, it was ruled that Barowski's shoulders were on the mat right before the buzzer sounded, and Brooks (27-8) was awarded a pin to cut the Marauder deficit to 17-9.

However, it was all Aggies after that as they registered 21 points in the final four weight classes for the 38-9 final. It began at 174 pounds where 23-0 and fifth-ranked Rocky Mantella faced Millersville's Shane Smith (29-11). Mantella was dominant as he blanked Smith 10-0 to become the first Delaware Valley wrestler since Jason Shivak in 2003-04 to go undefeated in the regular season.

Senior Mike Wilcox hit the mat for his final home match and the top-ranked, 184pound wrestler in Division III needed just 4:51 to register a 21-5, technical fall victory over Jason Foor. The win improved Wilcox to 29-2 on the year.
