AGGIES DOWN DIVISION II KUTZTOWN AND ELIZABETHTOWN

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College, ranked seventh in Division III, opened its dual meet season on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of victories over Division II Kutztown University (21-15) and Elizabethtown College (24-11). Kutztown registered a 22-12 victory over Elizabethtown in the opening bout of the tri-match.

The Aggies held a slim, 12-9 lead over Kutztown (3-1) with three weight classes remaining. However, Jeff Sicliano gave his team breathing room as he pinned Scott Snyder with 50 seconds remaining in the first period (2:10) for a nine-point advantage. Delaware Valley's J.D. Zitone then sealed the match with a 6-2 decision over Justin Grant at heavyweight. The Aggies forfeited the 125-pound weight class for the 21-15 final.

Delaware Valley also picked up decisions in four straight weight classes from nationally-ranked wrestlers Dale Fava (149) and Jesse Harrington (157) as well as Justin Barowski (165) and Dan Daddino (174). Fava, ranked seventh in Division III, had a 10-6 victory over Derek Scmelyun while Harrington, ranked ninth, edged Ricardo Pena, 5-4. Barowski followed with a 7-3 triumph over David Zeek and Daddino ended the run with an 8-4 decision over Alex Depew.

The match with Elizabethtown (0-2) saw the Aggies drop the 133-pound opening match, but follow with victories in the next five weight classes to pull away to the win.

Zak Andrews put Delaware Valley on the board with a 7-1 decision over Eric Rhoads at 141 and Matt Lindsay added a 4-2 decision over Tye Boyer at 149. Harrington and Barowski notched nine points thanks to a major decision and a technical fall. Daddino added a 5-3 win over Jim Gentile
