2009-10 SEASON PREVIEW

Delaware Valley College is coming off another year to remember. The Aggies set a school record with 21 wins (21-1-2) in the regular season and moved into the number two position in the national rankings following a tie on the road at defending champion Wartburg College.

Delaware Valley then breezed through for its third consecutive Midwest Regional title and sent six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships. A school-record five were crowned All-Americans (top eight finish), including Mike Wilcox who captured the 184-pound national title. Wilcox was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler (the first in school history) to lead the Aggies to a fifth-place showing in the team standings.

The current Delaware Valley roster is a much younger one as only two sophomores have NCAA tournament experience. Nonetheless, expectations are still high as five others have wrestled at the regionals or in key matches while head coach Brandon Totten has brought in another top-notch recruiting class. The national outlook is also high as the squad is ranked seventh in the Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III preseason coaches' poll.

To top it all off, the Aggies will get to wrestle in front of their home fans for the Midwest Regional Championships as Delaware Valley will host the NCAA qualifying tournament on February 20.

A high national ranking and great expectations off a championship season. Just the typical setting for the Aggies.

125 Pounds
The weight class is strong with sophomore Charlie Frankel (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) and freshman Zac Haynes (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) leading the way.

Frankel posted an 11-7 record with six pins last year and placed in the top three at both the Central Jersey Open and the Long Island Open. Haynes' senior year in high school saw him finish third at the PIAA State Championships.

133 Pounds
Junior Eric McCann (Hatfield, PA/Pennridge) will move down a weight class to take over for the graduated Brandon Clemmer, who was a two-time national qualifier and a 2009 All-American in his two seasons with the Aggies. McCann went 21-12 with three pins while placing sixth at the NCAA Midwest Regionals last season.

141 Pounds
Zak Andrews (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) split time with McCann in his rookie campaign, but the weight class is his in '09-10. He notched pins in 12 of his 19 wins (19-5), including a key fall to ignite the Aggies' 26-15, come-from-behind win at fourth-ranked Coe. Andrews also took top honors at both the York Invitational and the Messiah Open.

149 Pounds
Sophomore Dale Fava (Elmwood Park, NJ/Elmwood Park) returns and is ranked seventh in his weight class in the preseason nationally in the preseason coaches' poll. Fava is coming off a memorable first year with Delaware Valley that saw him win 20 of 29 matches (eight pins), place second at the Midwest Regionals and earn a wild-card bid to the NCAA Championships. At the national tournament, the unseeded Fava knocked off the No. 7 wrestler in the opening round before dropping the next matches to end his run.

Two others to watch are senior Matt Lindsay (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and freshman Emmaneual Ajagbe (Bogota, NJ/Bogota). Lindsay went 14-6 (five pins) and placed second at the York Invitational last year, while Ajabe was a state champion as a senior in high school .

157 Pounds
Jesse Harrington (New Providence, NJ/Bound Brook) is back after missing the entire 2008-09 campaign with an injury and expectations are high for him as he is ninth in the weight class in the preseason national rankings.

Harrington competed at 149 pounds as a rookie in 2007-08 and posted a 27-8 record. He went on to place second at the Midwest Regionals and was named as one of the regional's wild-card entries for the NCAA Championships.

165 Pounds
Senior Justin Barowski (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) has been granted an extra year of eligibility due to an injury earlier in his career. He transferred in from Wilkes University last season and notched a 25-10 record (three pins) while finishing third at the Midwest Regionals.

174 Pounds
The weight class is headed by junior transfer Dan Daddino (Franklin Square, NY/Carey). Daddino arrives from Nassau Community College where he was a two-time junior college national qualifier and a 2009 All-American.

184 Pounds
The weight class was dominated by Wilcox over the last two campaigns as he was the national runner-up in 2007-08 and the national champion last year.

Senior Martin Porter (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) will move down from 197 pounds to fill the void. He had a 21-9 record with eight pins and finished second at the Midwest Regionals a season ago.

197 Pounds
Jeff Siliciano (West Allenhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) split time with Porter last season and will head the weight class in 2009-10. The junior won 20 of 26 matches with 10 pins, including a first-place showing at the York Invitational.
