AGGIES SWEEP A PAIR OF DIVISION I TEAMS

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College, ranked third in Division III, concluded the 2008 portion of its schedule by notching home victories over Division I programs Davidson College (27-12) and Delaware State University (40-7).

The wins improved the Aggies to 3-0-1 in dual meets. They will return to action Saturday, December 3 (10:00 a.m.) when they head to Ursinus College to take part in the North/South Duals.

The Delaware Valley-Davidson match saw the Wildcats (2-5) hold a 12-9 lead with four weight classes remaining. The Aggies' Justin Barowski then tied the contest with a 4-0 decision over Kevin Cook at 174 pounds.

That set the stage for the most anticipated match of the afternoon as Delaware Valley's Mike Wilcox, the top-ranked wrestler in Division III at 184 pounds and last year's national runner-up, faced Sam O'Hair, ranked 30th in Division I. Wilcox trailed 1-0 heading into the third period before an early escape tied it up. It remained a 1-1 score until Wilcox (9-1) notched a takedown with 12 seconds remaining then added three points on a near-fall for a 6-1 triumph and a 15-12 Delaware Valley lead.

The Aggies Jeff Siciliano was awarded a victory by forfeit at 197 to make it 21-12 and All-American heavyweight Kyle Bilquist ended the match by pinning Charlie Wolff in 88 seconds for the 27-12 final.

Nationally-ranked wrestlers Chris Sheetz and Brandon Clemmer opened the Davidson match with victories for Delaware Valley. Sheetz, a returning All-American who is currently fifth at 125 pounds, pinned Ben Altman in 1:52 while Clemmer, a returning national qualifier who is fourth at 133 pounds, earned a 4-2 decision over Alex Radsky.

Davidson picked up four straight victories as Vitaly Radsky (141), David DeCamp (149), Joe McGinley (157) and Tyler Mullen (165) each earned decisions for its 12-9 lead.

The Delaware Valley-Delaware State match saw the Aggies win eight of the 10 weight classes, including three straight pins to open the contest. Sheetz dropped Harry Broomall in 64 seconds while Clemmer rallied from a 6-3 deficit and pinned Kelvin Watford in 6:10. Zak Andrews then earned a fall over Chris Dimattia 2:18 into their 141-pound battle.

Matt Lindsay received a forfeit victory at 149 for a 24-0 Aggie lead. The Hornets (1-5) then picked up its lone points as Brandon Gardner earned a decision at 149 pounds and Kyle Robinson followed with a major decision at 157.

However, Delaware Valley racked up 16 points in the final four weights for the 40-7 victory. Rocky Mantella began the run with an 8-0 major decision over Kyle Skinner at 174 and Wilcox picked up a forfeit at 184. Martin Porter edged Shawn Nowery, 10-8, at 197 pounds and Bilquist ended the afternoon with a 10-3 triumph over Jamar Beckett.

Davidson took the opening contest of the tri-match with a 22-21 victory over Delaware State. The match came down to heavyweight and Wolff notched a takedown with two seconds remaining in overtime for a 4-2 victory.
