AGGIES TAKE THIRD AT KEAN TOURNAMENT WITH 81-59 ROUT OF SALISBURY
UNION (NJ) – Sophomore point guard Brittany Battinieri notched career highs of 25 points and eight assists to lead Delaware Valley College to an 81-59 victory over Salisbury University in the consolation game of THE ROCK Cougar Classic held at Kean University.

The Aggies (1-1) fell behind 9-0 but they rallied back and were even at 25-25 with 6:02 remaining. They then took the lead for good with seven straight points – including a 3-pointer by Battinieri – and eventually took a 41-31 advantage into the intermission.

It was still a 10-point ballgame a little more than three minutes into the second stanza when Delaware Valley went on a 12-2 run to open up a 57-37 advantage. Battinieri scored five points in the spurt while backcourt mate Kim Vennera added four.

Battinieri, the 2008 Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year, topped her previous career bests of 21 points and six assists. She hit four treys in the game and also added five rebounds and four steals.

Vennera finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Freshman Brittney Zimmerman added nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals while fellow rookie Jackie Shunkwiler finished with eight points.

Janay Johnson led the Sea Gulls (0-2) with 16 points while Glen Charlton and Kylie Hall added 14 and 12 points respectively.

Bilquist went a perfect 3-0 at the North/South Duals, including a victory over the top-ranked heavyweight in Division III. That triumph was a 3-2 decision over Dan Laurent of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Bilquist, a two-time national qualifier and 2008 All-American, also had a pin and a major decision on the afternoon.
